Orthodontic Treatment Methods

Fixed Orthodontic Therapy

The therapy carried out with small force transmitters called “brackets”, which are fixed on teeth, is called “fixed orthodontic therapy”. As the name suggests, the brackets are glued on tooth by the orthodontist and cannot be removed by the patient during the therapy. Brackets are divided in two groups as metal and ceramic (porcelain) brackets. Both bracket types have their specific advantages and both types can be used effectively for children as well as adults. Brackets, after they are pasted on teeth, are attached to each other by means of “arch wire”. The arch wires with “shape memory”, which are made of a nickel and titanium mixture, are manufactured with state-of-the-art technologies. They try to shape the teeth, as the patient desires. After the brackets are applied to the teeth and wires are placed, the teeth start to move. Within the first 72 hours, some issues like pressure, sticking and numbness can be felt; these are the previews of the first movements in your teeth. In this period, slight abrasions and damages can be seen on buccal area and lips. Your oral tissues will get used to the wires and brackets in a short time and discomfort will disappear at the end of the first week.

  • Removable Apparatus

These are the apparatus, which consist of acrylic dentures and wires that provide attachment to the mouth. The patient can remove them by himself. These are used for ensuring simple dental movements, for widening the jaws of the children and in some cases as a strengthener before or after therapy. Your dentist will determine the replacement time of the removable apparatus.

  • Functional Apparatus

These are the special apparatus, which are used in the early ages before the adolescence period in order to fix the damaged relation between the upper and lower jaw (skeletal problems). These can also be removed and re-fitted by the patient. They are particularly used along with the fixed orthodontic apparatus in the cases where the lower or upper jaw is at the back or front.

  • Orthognathic Surgery (Orthodontia + Surgery)

Surgical corrections are made in addition to the orthodontic therapy, in the cases where the disorder in question may not be fixed with orthodontic or orthopedic therapy. Defects on jaw or face can be by nature or can have been obtained due to an accident or disease. Disharmony of the jaws, either with each other or with your face, causes functional and physiological disorders in addition to esthetic ones. Advanced technological applications and plastic surgery applications can fix such defects and disorders.

Hareketli Apareyler

Akrilik damak kısmıyla ağızda tutunmayı sağlayan tellerden oluşan hasta tarafından takılıp çıkartılabilen apareylerdir. Bu apareyler basit diş hareketlerinin yapılmasında, çocuklarda dar çenelerin genişletilmesinde, bazı vakalarda sabit tedavi öncesinde tedaviye hazırlık veya tedavi sonrasında pekiştirme amacıyla kullanılırlar. Hareketli apareylerin takılma süreleri ortodontistiniz tarafından belirlenecektir.

Fonksiyonel Apareyler

Ortognatik Cerrahi (Ortodonti+Cerrahi)
